Taking a break with Speedweek's Summer Boag @ the ASID Desert Nationals

Speedweek is a household name in Australia, not just for all genres of Motorsports fanatics but anyone who has tuned into SBS TV on a Sunday for a weekend sports fix will undoubtedly have seen the high profile series which provides a comprehensive wrapup of Motorsport in Australia and overseas.

Covering the racing scene with HighRPM in the Northern Territory meant that sooner or later I was bound to work with the Speedweek crew on event coverage, especially for the big drag racing events when they extend their series northwards.

The first such opportunity extended itself with the Aussie Slamfest series round in Darwin 2012 and then again more recently in Alice Springs in 2013 with the ANDRA Desert Nationals at the Inland Dragway.

Filming in Alice at the end of June was definitely a lot different from our usual tracks in Darwin, for a start the temperatures were 20° C lower than usual and the wind exposure played havoc with the steadycam rig's monitor catching it like a sail, making for some challenging shooting., but I have to admit it was REALLY nice not to sweat my own bodyweight wearing the rig for a change!
